New Job: Staff Backend Engineer – Portfolio Reporting
Location: San Francisco or Los Angeles (Hybrid)
Salary: $200,000 – $240,000 + equity
Orbis is partnering with a high-growth fintech that’s rebuilding the investment infrastructure powering modern wealth platforms. Their unified solution serves independent financial advisors—combining brokerage, reporting, trading, and billing into one seamless interface.
They’re now hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to lead backend efforts for their portfolio reporting function—covering complex features like statements, billing, and performance tracking. This is a hands-on leadership role with technical depth and product influence at scale.
The Role
As Staff Engineer, you’ll own and evolve the architecture behind portfolio reporting systems—developing robust backend services, scaling distributed pipelines, and integrating new data sources. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver seamless experiences to advisors and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Lead backend development for the portfolio reporting team
Build and maintain scalable microservices and data pipelines
Own key ELT processes and ensure reporting accuracy
Integrate new custodians, data feeds, and investment types
Drive technical decisions and mentor engineers across the team
Partner closely with product and design to shape roadmap priorities
Key Requirements
8+ years’ backend experience (Java/Spring Boot preferred)
Expertise in distributed systems and large-scale data processing
Experience working on investment platforms or portfolio reporting tools
Familiarity with AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture
Excellent communication and leadership skills
A strong sense of ownership and focus on reliability
