Overview:

A leading AI-driven organisation is seeking a Research Scientist with expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs). This is a fully remote role based in the United States, offering the opportunity to lead innovative research efforts focused on content quality and misinformation detection at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and pursue research questions in collaboration with product managers, machine learning scientists, and engineers
  • Conduct extensive literature reviews and identify potential research directions
  • Design and run experiments, lead data collection efforts, and work with large-scale text datasets
  • Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems
  • Deliver research findings and collaborate with engineering teams to integrate solutions into production environments
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Computational Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience or equivalent experience in a research setting (recent PhD graduates encouraged to apply)
  • Strong experience with a range of NLP tasks (e.g. part-of-speech tagging, entity recognition, dependency parsing)
  • Broad understanding of machine learning and statistical methods (e.g. causal inference, deep learning, reinforcement learning)
  • Proficient in Python or R; experience with Spark or PySpark
  • Proven track record of end-to-end research execution

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with misinformation detection, fact-checking, or computational journalism
  • Strong publication record
  • Experience designing and implementing evaluation frameworks
  • Knowledge of journalistic principles and/or regulated industries
