Senior Back End Engineer (Java / Microservices / GCP)

New York | Hybrid | $200k–$230k base + equity + bonus

I’m working with a fast-growing fintech platform building a product that transforms how people engage with where they live – combining payments, rewards, and local experiences into a single ecosystem. They’re scaling their engineering team and looking for a strong backend engineer to help build and evolve core platform services.

It’s a high-ownership environment where senior engineers genuinely shape product direction and technical standards rather than just executing tickets.

The Role

You’ll join a high-impact backend team responsible for the systems powering both mobile and web platforms. This is a hands-on senior engineering role focused on microservices architecture, scalability, and reliability, working closely with engineering and product leadership.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and building backend services in Java (Quarkus framework)
• Developing and evolving microservices architecture
• Using Google Cloud Platform to improve system design and performance
• Driving automation across infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring and reliability
• Contributing across the full development lifecycle
• Mentoring engineers and helping establish engineering best practices

What They’re Looking For

• 6+ years backend or platform engineering experience
• Strong Java development background
• Experience building scalable distributed systems or microservices
• Cloud experience (GCP preferred, AWS/Azure also relevant)
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment
• Strong collaboration skills
