REF: 4364916032

An established, fast-growing technology firm operating in a highly data-driven, regulated environment is looking to hire a Junior Java Engineer to join a small, high-calibre engineering team.

This is a genuine opportunity for someone early in their career to work on real production systems, gain exposure to modern backend engineering practices, and learn from experienced engineers in a collaborative, low-ego environment.

The role

You’ll be contributing to backend services that process and manage complex data at scale. From day one, you’ll be involved in writing production code, improving system reliability, and learning how high-quality software is built and maintained.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining Java-based backend services
  • Working with modern frameworks and APIs
  • Writing clean, testable, well-documented code
  • Collaborating closely with senior engineers to learn best practices
  • Supporting the evolution of scalable, reliable systems

What they’re looking for:

  • Commercial experience in Java
  • Understanding of object-oriented design and core backend principles
  • Some exposure to APIs, databases, or distributed systems
  • Curiosity, humility, and a genuine desire to learn
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset

Nice to have (not essential):

  • Experience with Spring / Spring Boot
  • Exposure to cloud environments or containerisation
  • Interest in financial systems, data platforms, or high-reliability software

Why this role?

  • Proper mentorship and clear technical progression
  • Exposure to real-world, business-critical systems (not side projects)
  • Small team where your work actually matters
  • Hybrid working model with a grown-up approach to flexibility
  • Strong engineering culture focused on quality over ego

This role would suit a junior engineer who wants depth, learning, and long-term growth.
