Founding ML Engineer

$160,000–$190,000 + 0.50%–1.00% Equity

Are you passionate about solving complex technical challenges and making a real impact in healthcare? We’re hiring a Founding ML Engineer to take on complex technical challenges at the intersection of data, machine learning, and healthcare. You’ll be joining early, with the opportunity to influence both the product and the technical foundation from the start.

Why This Role Matters

Accessing meaningful insights from clinical data is still a slow, fragmented process. This role involves building ML-driven systems that make that data more usable, reliable, and scalable. You’ll work closely with technical leadership to design and deploy models, shape architecture, and lay the groundwork for a platform with real-world healthcare impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and scale the AI layer of the platform, focused on real-world healthcare data
  • Deploy LLMs to abstract concepts from clinical notes, clean structured data, and support analysis
  • Own projects end-to-end: from problem definition to implementation and iteration
  • Help shape technical strategy and best practices for the early-stage engineering team
  • Collaborate across product and engineering to ship high-impact, high-quality work

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years in ML engineering, data science, or data engineering, with startup experience
  • Proficient in Python and SQL, including fine-tuning and deploying large language models
  • Experience with modern data pipeline and orchestration tools (e.g., Kedro, Dagster, DBT)
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, quality, and building scalable systems
  • Effective communicator who works well in fast-paced, collaborative teams; healthcare data experience is a plus

Our client is building thoughtfully and moving fast. If you’re excited by technical challenges and motivated by real-world impact, let’s talk!

At Orbis Group, we are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. Research indicates that candidates, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, often hesitate to apply for jobs if they don't meet every qualification.

If you're excited about a role but don't perfectly align with every requirement, we encourage you to apply. Your unique skills and experiences may be the perfect fit for the job or other opportunities that arise.
