A rapidly scaling fintech, backed by top-tier investors and trusted by over 600 global financial institutions, is seeking a Founding Data Engineer to lead the build of a next-generation data platform from the ground up.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the foundational data infrastructure of a high-growth business. You’ll define the vision, architecture, and technical strategy for a platform that enables real-time insights, smarter decision-making, and robust data services across all business functions.
What You’ll Do:
Define and own the vision for a unified, scalable data platform
Build performant data pipelines for batch, streaming, and real-time workloads
Champion best-in-class data engineering practices and tooling
Ensure data is accessible, secure, and trustworthy across the organisation
Drive data governance, compliance, and security frameworks
Partner with product and engineering leaders to shape the roadmap
Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing data engineering team
What We’re Looking For:
8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on platform or infrastructure
Deep expertise in cloud data architectures, distributed systems, and ETL/ELT design
Proven track record building scalable, fault-tolerant data systems
Strong understanding of trade-offs in data performance, scalability, and flexibility
A business-minded engineer who thrives in high-ownership environments
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across teams and functions
Bonus Points For:
Experience designing self-service data tools for internal and/or external users
Familiarity with event-driven architectures or streaming data platforms
Hands-on work with internal tools like Retool or similar platforms
