A fast-growing AI-powered startup is seeking a Director of Engineering (Backend) to lead the development of its core distributed systems.

This is a high-impact, fully remote role for a hands-on technical leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments. You’ll play a critical role in scaling infrastructure, shaping engineering culture, and building backend systems that power cutting-edge AI/ML platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow a high-performing backend engineering team

  • Drive the architecture and development of scalable distributed systems

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and ML teams

  • Maintain high standards for code quality, reliability, and performance

  • Contribute technically where needed in a hands-on capacity

Requirements:

  • Strong experience building distributed systems at scale

  • Background in start-ups or scale-ups

  • Proven experience in technical leadership and mentoring

  • Familiarity with AI/ML systems or data-intensive platforms

  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management
