Data Engineering lead

Orbis are working with a mid-sized Alternative Investment Management firm in the City hiring a Data Engineering Lead with excellent experience with the Microsoft Azure Data stack to own the greenfield build of a new Azure-based Data Platform.

This is an incredible opportunity for a motivated and hands-on Senior Data Engineering professional who thrives in a stakeholder-facing environment to take on a hands-on position of responsibility with a direct path to Head of Data Engineering.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Ownership and hands-on engineering contribution to the build of a greenfield data platform (Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, lakehouse, warehouse, pipelines), Azure, Spark, SQL, and Power BI), including data architecture decisions.
• Acting as the data engineering SME internally – setting standards, mentoring a small but growing data engineering team, partnering with stakeholders, and shaping how data engineering is done as the platform and team scale.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 7+ years’ experience in Data Engineering positions with extensive experience using the Microsoft Azure data stack (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Fabric)
• Proven experience in a position of responsibility leading data initiatives and working with Data Platforms
• Very comfortable working collaboratively in a stakeholder facing role, including gathering requirements from different business users
