C++ Software Engineer | Low Latency & Networking

Fully remote | £80,000–£120,000 + performance bonus | Permanent

We’re partnering with a specialist technology business building performance-critical systems across data, analytics and market execution.

They’re looking for a C++ engineer with a strong understanding of Linux and networking to build systems that stay fast and reliable under unpredictable network conditions.

This role will suit someone who enjoys getting beneath the application layer: understanding TCP behaviour, investigating latency and building robust connection handling when networks become unreliable.

What you’ll be working on

  • Designing and developing high-performance, low-latency systems in modern C++.
  • Managing TCP connections, including timeouts, retries, reconnection and recovery.
  • Measuring and reducing the impact of jitter, packet loss and variable latency.
  • Profiling and tuning Linux systems to improve performance and consistency.
  • Investigating bottlenecks across application code, the operating system and network.
  • Building tooling and instrumentation to understand how systems behave in production.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong commercial C++ experience in performance-critical or latency-sensitive systems.
  • A deep understanding of TCP and network behaviour beyond using networking libraries.
  • Hands-on Linux experience, including system and networking performance tuning.
  • Experience handling connection failures, packet loss and unpredictable network conditions.
  • A methodical approach to debugging and optimisation, using measurement and profiling to guide decisions.

Your background could be in trading technology, market connectivity, telecommunications or another environment where network performance and reliability are central to the systems you build.

What’s on offer

  • Fully remote working.
  • £80,000–£120,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Performance bonus.
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Private health insurance.
  • The opportunity to take ownership of technically challenging work across C++, Linux and networking.

At Orbis Group, we are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. Research indicates that candidates, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, often hesitate to apply for jobs if they don't meet every qualification.

If you're excited about a role but don't perfectly align with every requirement, we encourage you to apply. Your unique skills and experiences may be the perfect fit for the job or other opportunities that arise.
